Earthdance Wooden Floors and Autumn Leaves Work Party
October 7, 8 & 9 (Columbus Day Weekend)



Dear Friends,

The past 5 months here at Earthdance have been an adventure of renovations,
building codes, and work. We are in the final stretch, but we need your
help, your enthusiasm, your strength, and your time - to put in one big work
push in the final stages and be a part of Earthdance history! Details at the
bottom of this message.


Wondering What a Work Party is Like?:
“So, my towel rack is hanging on a thread, 8 curtain rods are nicely stacked
in my bedroom and the knob to my porch has fallen off. This has been for a
while. I have some inhibition to starting these jobs –
Then I go to ED's  work weekend. I get a carpenter belt, hammer measuring
tape and am set loose to install drywall in a team and it turns out I have a
knack for the measuring, cutting
. and I'm like drilling 5052 drywall screws
into the walls. I'm on ladders, I'm lifting, I'm even descending into the
UNDER BELLY of the new building, squeezing behind water heaters ( still with
my handy screw gun )!
All the while we there are people ripping out temporary stairs, balancing on
the outside of the new additions putting up this yellow board, then this
thin, but heavy as shit outer board and finally painting, all the while
their bodies gleaming in the sun.
Back to the basement I enter a room where 3 people are installing windows, 2
are drywall taping and one is mixing this medieval brew of – plaster. Soon
there are 3 more plastering, but time is up: LUNCH TIME.
A clapping group of dancing folks greet us and Josh is smiling in the
kitchen behind huge bowls of steaming greens. WE mingle and it's neat to be
EARTHDANCE HEROES for a moment.
After the next shift ( another 2024 screws) and "The Erics" pass through
guiding, problem solving, encouraging I realize that this is building in the
spirit of earthdance: no one is screaming at on another, everyone is
focused, and cooperative and calm.
End of the day showers, more yummy food, sauna and the students in Keith
Hennessey's workshop perform radical improves and then we dance!
At home my towel rack is securely attached to the wall!  I smile knowing
that I  have left my mark in the walls of the new building!”

As always it has taken a bit longer and a bit more money than originally
planned. We are into the work of tiling the bathrooms, laying down the
beautiful oak floors, and putting up trim around the windows. Please come
join us for a day, a few hours, or the extended weekend – it is a great way
to experience community and a great opportunity to learn carpentry and
finish work skills. Any and all skill levels are welcome.

Please contact Spirit at (413) 634-5678 or spirit at earthdance.net if you plan
to come to the work party and especially if you are interested in sleeping
over night. There will be a JourneyDance training occurring at the main
Earthdance facility over the weekend, so we will spend most of our time
working at the new dormitory. All meals will be provided, and we can use one
of the studio’s in the evening.

Our goal is to have 25 or more people join us next weekend to install the
Oak floors.
